Call for Farmer Action – PMRA Decision on Lambda-cyhalothrin

GGC

As you may be aware, the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) of Health Canada has proposed a re-evaluation decision for Lambda-cyhalothrin (most commonly known as Matador) which would see the cancellation of use of the product for all food and feed commodities as well as indoor residential application.

Farmers use pesticides as a last resort to protect their crops using a risk assessment approach. As farmers, having access to a wide variety of safe, reliable pest control methods is crucial. Lambda-cyhalothrin has repeatedly been demonstrated to be safe and effective and is a valuable tool for grain farmers as we work to minimize risk and decrease yield loss from pests.

As such, Grain Growers of Canada has provided a letter (below) which will allow you to express comments and concerns to the PMRA as part of the official consultation and amplify our industry’s collective voice.

We encourage you to download this letter and fill in the portions highlighted in yellow. An optional paragraph has been included to allow you to provide specific examples of how you mitigate risk on your farm.

Once the letter is personalized, please email or mail it to PMRA, copying your local Member of Parliament (search for your MP online) as well as GGC at office@ggc-pgc.ca.

The deadline for submission is close of business September 21st, 2017.

If you have any questions please contact Lindsey Ehman directly.
