Grain Growers congratulate Liberal Party on their election success
OTTAWA, October 20, 2015 – Grain Growers of Canada president Gary Stanford, and Executive Director Bryan Rogers, issued the following statement today on the results of Canada’s 42nd General Election:
“Grain Growers of Canada wish to extend our congratulations to the Liberal Party and Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau on their decisive victory yesterday. They ran an excellent campaign, and as they begin the transition to government we are confident of their understanding and recognition of the importance of agriculture to Canada’s economy.
“We look forward to working with the new government to continue advancing the priorities of Canada’s grain, oilseed and pulse producers. These include: expansion of Canada’s trade relationships, including ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership and Canada-EU agreements; thorough consideration of the impending report of the Canada Transportation Act review, along with investments in transportation infrastructure; investments in Canada’s public research infrastructure; consultation on the effectiveness of the business risk management program suite; and, maintenance of Canada’s science-based regulatory regime.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Conservatives for their dedication and service to Canadians and to Canadian agriculture over the past nine years. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Ministers Gerry Ritz and Ed Fast implemented several measures that we believe fundamentally changed our sector for the better. In particular, the establishment of marketing freedom, an aggressive trade agenda, and reform of plant breeders’ rights will lead to a more competitive and profitable environment for Canada’s grain, oilseed and pulse producers, and for that we express our sincere appreciation and thanks.”
