Media Advisory – Grain industry hosts media teleconference on C-49 amendments
OTTAWA (April 30, 2018) – On April 27, 2018 Transport Minister Marc Garneau tabled amendments to Bill C-49, the Transportation Modernization Act. The amendments address long-standing requests from the grain supply chain and build on amendments made by the Senate.
The current grain transportation system is imbalanced and puts grain farmers and shippers at a distinct disadvantage, as seen with the severe grain shipping backlog experienced this year. Bill C-49, with the key amendments, will create a system that works for all parties.
Leaders representing grain farmers, shippers and processors will be available to answer the media’s questions regarding the crucial amendments, the need to pass C-49, as well as the ongoing rail backlog in the Prairies.
